Job description:

  • Do you consider yourself to be a motivated and experienced Engineering Department Manager to join our team! In that role, you will manage, coordinate and oversee the daily activities of highly skilled engineering staff while ensuring that the company objectives and goals are met. You will be responsible for implementing R & D, Product Development and incremental upgrades to existing products and their buildability. Designing and implementing processes for quality and timely delivery of production-ready engineering solutions will be your ambition. This is not a work-from-home position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Schedules and Oversees the daily workflow of the department and keeps engineering staff and tasks on track.
  • Assesses reasonableness of progress, quality and projected completion of all tasks by engineering staff.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new engineering staff in consultation with senior management.

Job Duties:

  • Serves as project manager for multiple projects, creating timelines and cost projections, organizing collaborative meetings, and ensuring projects comply with specifications, timelines, and budgets.
  • Writes Specifications for all development projects in conjunction with subject matter experts.
  • Leads and coordinates various engineering functions and operations including quality assurance, testing, production readiness, and research and development of new and existing product lines.
  • Facilitates communication among clients/customers/interface partners and in-house engineers, ensuring specifications, budgets, and deadlines are clearly communicated and understood in English, both written and verbal.
  • Reviews work and projects for technical accuracy.
  • Establishes, implements, and maintains administrative policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Prepares and executes departmental budget.
  • Maintains knowledge of new trends, developments, technologies, materials, and best practices; applies this knowledge to continually improve product lines and production efficiency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong and precise communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Thorough understanding of engineering theory, design criteria and processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong ability to reason through challenges from first principles.
  • Ability to reason through firmware and software logic to achieve outcomes matching or exceeding customer expectations for day-to-day functionality.
  • Experience with wireless systems, particularly ZigBee, is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer relationship skills.
  • Ability to mentor less experienced team members.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to draw together hardware, firmware and testing schedules to arrive at deadline on time.
  • Ability to assess reasonableness of engineering time estimates and task progress.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to learn new software systems.
  • Proficient with computer-aided drafting (CAD) software is a plus.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering preferred, minimum Electrical or Electronics Technical Diploma in combination with significant relevant experience.
  • At least eight years of related experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

  • Low voltage: 8 years (preferred)
  • Management: 4 years (preferred)
  • Electrical engineering: 8 years (preferred)
