How to Bring the Magic of Fall to your Interior Design

Fall is known for its cuddly weather, comforting scents, and happy activities as folks prepare for the holidays. Looking for ways to bring that warmth and comfort to your design? Keep reading for our thoughts on how to capture the essence of sweater weather in any space and a look at some Fall Interior Design Trends for 2023.

Lighting

When it comes to setting the mood, lighting can make a world of difference. For a cozy environment, try warm white lighting reminiscent of sunsets and fireplaces. Achieve this by using lights under 4000K temperature – or, to really evoke warmth, stick to light under 3000K. Use a dimmer to reduce brightness of ambient lighting and truly mimic a blazing hearth.

Color

The mental image of autumn is full of earthy, warm colors. Burnt orange, deep browns, and spiced reds; or maybe olive green, terracotta, and taupe. Use the 60-30-10 rule to consider how these colors can be incorporated to your design for the season. To introduce fall colors to your design, replace your accent color with the warm tones of autumn. Think throw blankets, pillows, curtains, and other similar items to replace with the seasonal colors.

2023 Fall Interior Design Trends

Natural Accents

Bring the beauty of fall’s nature inside with natural accents like wood finishes. “Rich walnuts and soothing oaks are a wonderful way of bringing a touch of the outside and creating a warming, cozy feel… that is perfect for the fall months,” Bo Hellberg, CMO at String Furniture, explained to Homes & Gardens. Décor such as dried grass and flowers, terracotta, travertine, and even faux leaves and pinecones all look beautiful in a cozy space.

Layered Textures

To appeal to both visual and tactile senses, include an array of textures in your design. Plush throws, soft pillows, woven blankets, and textured curtains for a perfect blend that pleases the eye and feels cozy. Plus, bouclé fabric has made a comeback this year! This trend can mix with natural accents by including elements like linen or cotton blend curtains.
